BOX LOCATIONS AND CODES

This is a list of computer locations, and example box 3 or 4 digit codes. These are purely examples as our database of codes is far to big to list them all. If your box code is not listed here it doesn't mean we cannot make a chip, simply email us, give us a call at 403-377-2277 or fax us at 403-377-2270 (24 hours)--have your code ready !

WHAT FOUR LETTER CODE DO WE NEED FOR THE PROM or MEMCAL? Click HERE to view diagram (click on lower right corner icon to enlarge)

Check the bottom of  the page for easy PROM and Memcal removal procedures and installation. Some performance memcals will be piggy backed to an adapter. Pay attention to installation procedures--and always use this page as a guideline.

Chip BCC "codes" are located on the white paper label that's stuck to the computer. You can also find the chip code by removing the lid from the computer (two 1/4" screws) and checking what letter code is on the silver or white label attached to the Memcal or Prom chip. Once we have those letters, we can program your chip. When calling or Emailing an order we need to know the computer code, year, make and model of your car, the engine size and any after market parts you may have added already--remember our performance chips are computer code specific--that's why they're the best !!

If there's no removeable chip, it's newer than 1992 and it's a "flash" only computer, and we'll need your VIN number to send you a complete performance computer.

HOW to REMOVE the PROM (1982 Cars through -1992 Trucks)

Epromrem1.jpg (13000 bytes) Eprom removed from Holder

To get the PROM out of the holder, gently squeeze the sides of the chip holder.  As you squeeze the sides (where the little chip legs reside), the PROM legs should pop loose from the holder and self extracate from the holder. If the chip fails to pop out, gently pry the legs individually  with something sharp (razor blade, electronics screwdriver, etc...) but again--BE CAREFUL. Note the notch in the holder (square) and notch in the chip (rounded). When re-installing the performance chip in the holder, the chip notch must be at the same end as the holder notch !!!!

alignprom.jpg (42611 bytes)

If you were supplied an ECU with a socket, the chip notch must align with the socket notch.

When re-installing your performance chip, make sure that the notch from the PROM aligns with the notch in the HOLDER (or socket when equipped). IT is impossible to install the holder backwards in the ECU socket--it has indexing notches to prevent this...but installing the PROM backwards in the holder, and turning the key on  will render it unuseable. We do not ship performance chips with holders or sockets--the "holder" is no longer being manufactured, so you must use your old one. Should you require one, we have them in stock.

If your factory chip has a 'holder'--you MUST REUSE the holder !!!

For MEMCAL installation,

refer to this procedure:

1. Disconnect the vehicle battery negative cable. Remove the kickpanel/glovebox/or other to access the computer. Disconnect the connectors at the computer and remove the computer. Remove the computer memcal cover via two 1/4" screws. Lift off the cover. Underneath you'll see a blue cover with a label or decal identifying the chip calibration. Some do not have a label--the BCC CAL ID (4 digit code) is printed directly on the blue cover in black ink. Under the cover is an ESC (Electronic Spark Control) module to the left in the below picture. The right side has the Eprom--which usually has a decal over the quartz window of the chip. This could be in number format or letter format--we need the letter format. The below picture shows the factory memcal installed in the factory computer. The memcal code and label code should match. If not--let us know what the SERVICE  number  (8 numbers) and 4 digit code are so we can verify your calibration as GM may have installed an updated code. We always like to work from the updates.

2. Remove the Blue covered memcal from the computer. If we supplied you an exact duplicate memcal, it installs EXACTLY as you removed the factory memcal. Do not attempt to install it backwards, upside down or inside out. Sometimes we supply a performance chip installed to what we call a "memboard".  This is a piggy-back device that interrupts and supplies our performance program, and yet still uses the  ESC module section of the original memcal.

Dscf0015.jpg (346240 bytes)

3. Note the row of pins beside the chip on the memboard--these slide into the original MEMCAL that was in your computer. Make sure you slide the pins of the memboard in the beginning slots of the memcal, or you will be mispositioning the memcal/memboard installation. This picture shows the proper installation of the 'memboard' to the 'memcal'.

If you fail to install the two components correctly, you may have a running vehicle with no spark control (fixed base timing--no timing advance).

 4. This shows the correctly installed assembly in the computer. Re-install the lid and install the computer back in the vehicle. Reconnect the battery and start. The vehicle may not run correctly for the first initial start-up attempts until it has relearned fuel mapping and knock control. Some transmissions also have relearn adaptives which must have drive time for relearn to occur.

Correctly installed in computer.

5.  Reinstall the cover, reconnect the wiring to the vehicle computer,  reinstall the PCM securely to its' holder and reconnect the battery. Turn on the key and note the check engine light. It will flash ONCE and remain on steady. Start the engine. The check engine light will go out. If the check engine light is rapidly flashing or on steady--you've installed the memcal/memboard incorrectly, or have a bad computer socket connection. Recheck the above procedures.
